Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, Sino-Anglo Cultural Exchange Association (SACEA) was founded by prof. Qiu in 1992, it is a non-political, non-religious, non-profit organisation committed to develop a needed
symbiosis between Great Britain and China. SACEA's mission is to foster cross-cultural understanding between British and Chinese.
The organisation achieves this goal by providing various educational opportunities to study, work and live in UK and China. SACEA also provide
advice, training, information and support to the local community.
We offer basic Chinese classes all year round in Newcastle upon Tyne. We also sponsor Chinese calligraphy,
Chinese language (from beginner to A-Level), Chinese cultural training, Chinese traditional art, Chinese cooking, and many other classes to suit your needs.
We also administer Translation/Interpretation services, Substitute Teachers Program (STP) for local schools, Study/Work/Teach in China Programs, Academic Summer Camps to China, and Study Tours/Tourist Groups to China.
Many congratulation to SACEA's chair Professor Florence Ji Dong Qiu who has been awarded the 2007 Pearls Award.
"The next recipient of the Pearl Awards for ‘Unsung Heroes’ has been instrumental in pioneering Chinese
arts and culture in the Chinese community, and to a wider mainstream audience in the North East of England.
She founded the Sino-Anglo Cultural Exchange Association and her work and dedication has enhanced the quality
of life for many of Newcastle’s members of the Chinese community, providing access and education to both the
young and the old. Her work over the last 20 years has spanned the UK and China, and has linked traditional
and modern Chinese art to the mainstream, bringing different communities together. Her achievements are too
numerous to mention here tonight but in 2004, the Arts Council of England said, “Without her dedication,
we are sure most of us would be a lot less knowledgeable about Chinese culture and Arts.”
